A while ago I was approached by a local residents association who were trying to get the government to start a trial for a supervised injecting room in the area to minimise the increasing number of drug overdoses and deaths in the area. They wanted to organise a mural with a goal to raise awareness of the growing community issue whilst being respectful to the people that had been personally affected. After months of discussions, Matt Thompson and Mayonaize were chosen as the artists, we all agreed on a concept and finally located a wall on the rear of The Hive shopping centre. Click here to see a video of the mural being painted, here to read an article from The Age newspaper and below are the finished pics with the thirty four names of the people that unfortunately lost their lives in the area over the last twelve months.
